Cornwall Drainage — Common Questions

Do you cover Cornwall 24 hours a day?

Yes. Exjet runs a 24-hour callout across east and north Cornwall, every day of the year. Our engineers work over the Tamar daily, so this is normal territory rather than a special trip.

PL14, PL15, PL17, PL18 and PL30 to PL32, plus EX23 around Bude — so Launceston, Liskeard, Callington, Gunnislake, Bodmin, Lostwithiel, Camelford, Delabole and Bude, and the villages and farms between them.

Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs here. Runoff off the moor and off hard standing arrives faster than an old soakaway or field drain can take it, and once it silts up the water finds the lowest point instead — which is usually a doorway. A camera survey tells you whether it needs cleaning, repairing or replacing.

Yes. We empty septic tanks and treatment plants, and more usefully we can tell you why one keeps filling. Very often the tank is fine and the soakaway has failed; emptying it repeatedly treats the symptom and costs you a great deal over a season.

They are a common cause of trouble. Wet wipes, cooking fat and a much heavier occupancy than the system was built for will block an old run quickly. A planned jet clean between seasons costs a fraction of an emergency callout in the middle of a changeover, and we can set that up as a standing arrangement.

No. There is no call-out charge anywhere we work. You get a price before we start, and it does not change because the job turned out to be at the end of a longer lane than expected.

Why Choose Exjet in North Cornwall

Exjet has been working on drains and sewers across the South West since 1986. We are a South West firm with our own depot, our own tankers and our own engineers — not a booking service passing your job to whoever answers. That matters more the further you are from a city, because it decides whether anyone actually turns up.

No call-out charge, a clear price before we start, and a 24-hour emergency line answered by people who know the difference between Bodmin and Bodmin Moor.

Exjet has been a South West firm for forty years, founded in 1986 and still run by the same family. Read how it started.

Our Drainage Services in North Cornwall

Moorland, Coastal and Off-Mains Drainage

Launceston, Liskeard, Callington, Menheniot, Pensilva, St Cleer, Dobwalls, Camelford, Delabole, Bodmin, Lostwithiel, Bude, Stratton and the farms and hamlets in between.

Three things cause most of the work here. Surface water off the moor overwhelming soakaways and field drains that were never sized for it. Root ingress into old clay runs under mature hedgerows and long drives. And holiday lets — a cottage built for one family now taking six changeovers a month, with wipes and fat going into a system that has no idea what has hit it. All three are fixable; all three get worse if you keep rodding them and hoping.

what we do

This corner of Cornwall is granite, moorland and small market towns, and the drainage reflects it. Rainfall coming off Bodmin Moor is heavy and it arrives fast. A lot of the housing stock is slate-and-stone and considerably older than any drainage standard. Outside the towns, mains drainage largely stops and everything runs to a septic tank or a treatment plant.

We have been working these roads for years on the back of our Plymouth and Saltash work, and we cover the whole stretch — Launceston and the Tamar valley, Liskeard and the villages south of the moor, Callington, Camelford, Bodmin and out to Bude on the coast.
